When do we run?
Pretty much anytime, but our main Club night is Wednesday at 6.30 p.m. We prefer to run off road as much as possible during the summer months (for the sake of our knees). We are lucky that there are so many trails and paths within 5 -10 minutes drive or run to facilitate this, e.g. Eccup and Harewood Estates, Meanwood Valley and Roundhay Park.
The distance and speed is fairly flexible though and it very much depends on who turns up to run. However, you can usually find someone to run with, from those who wish to blast a 10 mile course at break neck speed after a bad day at work, to those who feel that trotting along in the fresh air for 45 minutes is a better place to catch up with gossip than the pub or hairdressers.
On Sunday mornings at 9.00 a.m. the place to be for longer runs is Chapel A. Again the time and distance is flexible, generally based what races are in prospect. Some of our members regularly train for and run the London Marathon, resulting in distances of up to 22 miles being covered – nice. However, unless you are a fartlek short of a training schedule, you’ll be pleased to know that a couple of hours is more the norm, covering between 10 and 15 miles at a steady pace. Even then, those not wishing to run long distances can cut off at convenient points and the routes are designed to cater for this.
As if twice a week isn’t enough, there are also usually runners out on Tuesday evenings at 6.30 p.m. for a bit of speed work, a few hill reps or some interval training. All good stuff.
